CRIME, COYOTES, and Critters!

The Arden Arcade Community faces a number of challenges. Recently, crime and coyotes have been among the most emotionally charged concerns posted on Facebook and Nextdoor.

Following last month's Country Club Alliance of Neighborhoods (CCAN) Meeting, questions persist in the Arden Arcade Community as to the cause for so many cats being found mutilated, often with very clean cuts, leaving some concerned that something much more nefarious may be occurring in our neighborhoods. Deputy District Attorney Hilary Bagley-Franzoia, who heads the County Animal Abuse Unit & Task Force for the DA's Office, will address this and more at the July 22nd CCAN Meeting (details below). We learned last month from Guy Galante that coyotes are present year-round, though they may be more brazen and bold during the mating season and when seeking food for their new pack, so they are still roaming our neighborhoods.

A key person in two of the most prominent news stories of the last year, Anne Marie Schubert, Sacramento County District Attorney, will be speaking at this event. A product of Arden Arcade, she is very familiar with issues that are of concern to this Community. We at CCAN are proud and honored to bring these two excellent speakers to this Community. We hope you will join us!

Meeting June 24th! Protect your Pets! Protect yourself & family!!!

Coyotes in our Community! Shootings happening around us!! What can we do???

First, decide to LEARN about the coyotes that have learned to adapt and survive in an increasingly urban community. Next, plan to attend a free presentation at the June 24th Meeting of the Country Club Alliance of Neighborhoods. Did I mention this meeting is free?

Guy Galante is an expert on this subject and in this area. A Carmichael native, he's earned a bachelor's degree in Geography, holds a multiple subject teaching credential, and is currently working towards a master's degree in Recreation, Parks, and Tourism Administration.

Next, LEARN what is important to remain aware of! Also presenting will be Hector Alvarez, Principal of Alvarez Associates, LLC. An expert in situational awareness, he consults with various types of businesses and organizations and trains in violence prevention.
Ask yourself- if you were in a public space and heard gunshots, what would you do? Do you know? Do you have any concept of what could and should be done NOW? Seconds matter. Learn what to be aware of- it might just save the life of a loved one.

In honor of the U.S. Service Members who died while on active duty, the CCAN Meeting will not be held this month.

The next Meeting will be June 24th at 6:30pm.
We hope to see you there.

If you have the time, interest and inclination, we encourage all to visit the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery on Monday for the 9:00am Ceremony.

Memorial Day Ceremony at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery

National Cemetery Administration will host Memorial Day ceremonies at VA national cemeteries across the country with the help of local communities. Each cemetery and community will add their own special touch of patriotism and "thanks" during the events.
Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May (May 27 in 2019). Formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates U.S. Service Members who died while on active duty. First enacted to honor Union and Confederate soldiers following the American Civil War, it was extended after World War I to honor Americans who have died in all wars.

Unlike Veterans Day, which celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans, living and dead, Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women of the armed forces who have died.
Our sincere thanks and deepest gratitude to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our Freedom, and condolences to those they left behind.

CCAN Meeting April 22nd with Albie Aware

CANCER. Specifically, breast Cancer.

We have all been touched by this insidious disease. According to the National Cancer Institute (, breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in the U.S.

Sacramento is fortunate to be home to a remarkable organization- the Albie Aware Breast Cancer Foundation. CCAN is proud to bring Doug Carson, who Founded Albie Aware in memory of Albie Carson, wife and breast cancer victim, to share the story and the efforts of this wonderful local resource.

Albie Aware- Our Mission: "Provide assistance for life-saving diagnostic testing, patient advocacy, prevention education and compassionate support to local individuals facing or fighting breast cancer."

Albie Aware- Who We Help: "Sacramento’s leading breast cancer foundation, we provide immediate support to ANYONE facing a breast cancer diagnosis, going through treatment or living as a survivor. We assist with a very broad range of people and situations. Whether or not you have medical insurance, we can help with the cost of receiving diagnostic testing for breast cancer. You may need a referral for a plastic surgeon, oncologist or a second opinion. You may need questions answered about breast cancer and your treatment options. We welcome you and your family to meet with us at our Albie Aware Office to help you begin your journey, sort through your test results, look into treatment options or pick up some turbans and receive a hug. We are here for you."

Whether you have somehow been impacted by cancer, or might know someone who will be, please join us to learn how this Foundation assists those who are afflicted, and perhaps as importantly, how we might be able to assist the Foundation.

Please share with your neighbors and friends, but most importantly, please add this to your calendar now and join us for an informative evening.

Crime? In Arden Arcade???

The Community Prosecution Unit of the District Attorney's Office focuses on targeted criminal acts and code enforcement issues that traditional prosecutors have not typically handled, such as problem solving for crime prevention, public safety and health matters. Along with Law Enforcement, public and private agencies, organizations and the community, the CPUs efforts are to identify issues and prevent crime.

From panhandling to notorious apartment slumlords, the role of the CPU is to find and implement ways to improve quality of life for those in our Community. Ron Linthicum, Deputy District Attorney for Arden Arcade, will describe ongoing efforts, including the Business Improvement Districts of Watt Avenue and Auburn Boulevard, and a recently implemented group at Arden Way and Ethan Way.

CCAN proudly presents people to address topics and answer questions regarding the Arden Arcade Community.

We hope you will plan to join us for an informative evening. Please share this invitation with your neighbors and friends throughout Arden Arcade. Meetings are the fourth Monday of each month. As always, if you know of a topic or speaker that you think would be of interest to the Community, please feel free to bring it to our attention. There is no cost to attend!

Arden Arcade Community Meeting w Anne Marie Schubert Oct 22nd 6:30pm

If you lived in Sacramento, Northern California, or California in the '70s and '80's you will no doubt remember the stories of the East Area Rapist and/or the Golden State Killer. Ms. Schubert was instrumental in the identification of the monster who committed (allegedly) these heinous acts. Also, as Sacramento County's Prosecutor, few others know better the impact and ramifications of Propositions 47 & 57 on Crime & Safety in our Community, and the efforts underway to improve our Quality of Life here.

We will also hold nominations and voting for the 2018 CCAN Board of Directors. If you are interested in participating, please be sure to attend!

Arden Arcade Community Meeting Sept 24th at 6:30p

For some time, there has been concern over Commercial development in Arden Arcade regarding what is being done, by developers/private investors and Sacramento County, to encourage healthy business growth, particularly in our Community.

Also, there have been many changes recently over what can or cannot be recycled in our County provided bins. Numerous questions at a recent CCAN Meeting made it apparent that we want to be responsible citizens, and want to do the right thing, but don't fully understand how to comply, and why the changes were necessary. CCAN is proud to present exactly the right people to address those topics and answer questions at the September Meeting!

Speakers for this evening are:
Mr. Troy Givans, Director, Sacramento County Economic Development
Mr. Doug Sloan, Director, Department of Waste Management & Recycling

I hope you will plan to join us for an informative evening. Please share this invitation with your neighbors and friends in the Arden Arcade Community. Our meetings are the fourth Monday of each month. As always, if you know of a topic or speaker that you think would be of interest to the Community, please feel free to bring it to our attention! There is no cost to attend.

CCAN Meeting Aug 27th 6:30~8:00p

CCAN is proud to present great speakers who will address issues that effect every resident of Arden Arcade. The San Juan Unified School District (SJUSD) is making many changes that will upgrade and improve the educational environment for decades to come.

What changes are being made? How are they decided? Who makes those decisions? For that matter, how are your tax dollars being spent? Come to the meeting Monday night and meet the people responsible for budgeting, planning and executing the plans.

Frank Camarda (Assistant Superintendent Operations, Facilities & Transportation) and Brett Mitchell (Director, Facilities Construction & Modernization) wiil share a presentation of the upgrades and renovations and answer your questions after.

Representatives of our Elected Official will also provide brief updates on the efforts of their respective offices, and will also be present to answer your questions.

Whether or not you have children in the public school system, your tax dollars are at work. I'm glad to have these gentlemen in control, and I don't share that lightly. Please join us for a very informative evening!

Until a new appointment is made, Mr. Penrose currently is the Director of Transportation and has been since 2008. CALIFORNIA'S WATER- A Historical Perspective & Future Prospects

Everyone is (or should be) concerned about California's future with regard to water,
Without question, the most roundly appreciated speaker that has graced a CCAN Meeting over the last two years is returning May 21st, just prior to his retiring from the Sacramento Suburban Water District, which he has led for 16 years.

Rob Roscoe, outgoing GM of SSWD, is a true wealth of knowledge. His historical perspective begins as a boy whose father was a water engineer in the San Joaquin Valley. Enjoy a thorough overview of what weather factors differentiate California from every other State. Our water infrastructure is critical to our future. Our dams are owned and operated by a myriad of agencies, from the massive Shasta to nearby Folsom Dams, which are operated by the Federal Bureau of Reclamation, to the State managed Oroville Dam, and many others operated by PG&E, SMUD and others, all tightly managed and sometimes constricted by Federal and State regulations. As might be suspected, these regulations often conflict and defy common sense. Can anything be done to correct this, and how?

From those with a curious interest to others with profound knowledge of the States' water infrastructure, I guarantee you will not leave without learning something.
(If I'm wrong, I'll refund double your price of admission!)

CRIME IN OUR COMMUNITY!!! What is being done about it?

CCAN is proud to host Anne Marie Schubert to share the efforts and challenges that her office faces. With roots in Arden Arcade and an alum of Loretto High School, she has since earned the support and endorsements of the vast majority of local elected officials in her role as Sacramento County's District Attorney.

Why has crime increased and what can be done about it? Come out and hear first hand what is being done about it! Ongoing investigations can not be discussed for legal and obvious reasons.

Please share with your neighbors and friends!

Together, Propositions 47 and 57 have greatly reduced the penalties for many crimes and provided early release of many prisoners back into our communities. Hear of the effort to "Keep California Safe" from the speaker recommended by our District Attorney!

Mike Ziegler, Spokesman for Assemblyman Jim Cooper, will describe and explain Initiative 17-0044 and the signature drive to pass it. Don't just complain about crime- help to reduce it!

Keep California Safe

Forum on Municipal Incorporation & Local Governance Oct 16th

There has been a great deal of discussion lately on Nextdoor and elsewhere about whether our community ought to be a city. A community forum on issues surrounding municipal incorporation to be held at Conzelmann Center at Howe Park on October 16th from 7:00-8:30p (doors will open at 6:30p). To be very clear, the meeting is not intended to promote formation of a new city. Rather, it seeks to inform people about the process of, and barriers to, municipal incorporation. Given that 4 million Californians live in urbanized unincorporated areas like ours, a statewide organization, California (un)Incorporated, has proposed ways to improve local governance and is hoping to change the state's policies that block new cities. The public is invited to come to the meeting to learn about the potential for better local government and removal of barriers to municipal incorporation. The guest speaker is Katherine Borges of the Salida Chamber of Commerce and California (un)Incorporated. The forum is presented by an array of community groups including the Advocates for Arden Arcade, the Country Club Alliance of Neighborhoods, Stammtisch and Vintage Arden-Arcade. Other community groups may be added as co-hosts.

Afghan Refugees- 3000 to 4000 are scheduled to arrive in Arden Arcade this year. Why? Are we safe?

Dear CCAN Neighbors,

Please join us for our monthly meeting on Monday, May 22, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. We will be discussing and learning about the many Middle Eastern Refugees who have made Arden Arcade their new home. The meeting is at Arden Hills Club and Spa located at 1220 Arden Hills Lane, Sacramento, CA 95864

  • Middle Eastern Refugees- 3000 to 4000 are coming to Arden Arcade this year!
  • Why? Are we safe?

Arden Arcade has become one of the most desired destinations in America for those escaping the Taliban and the destruction of their homes and lives in Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq and other Middle Eastern countries.

  • What is the "VETTING PROCEDURE" that we've heard so much about?
  • Does it really make us safe?

Imagine the culture shock for the families that are lifted from their war-torn world and dropped unceremoniously in the suburbs of Sacramento. What are the challenges the non English speaking wives and children face in their new environment?

We have excellent speakers who will describe in detail the vetting procedure, and the efforts and challenges of finding housing for the new residents. Bring your questions and receive answers at the upcoming meeting.

We will also have representatives from our elected officials to provide brief updates on the ongoing work of each office.

Please share this information with others who may be interested!

We hope to see you at the meeting!
